Menstrual cup usage

A menstrual cup is a reusable alternative to tampons or pads that can be inserted into the vagina to collect menstrual blood. Here’s how to use a menstrual cup:

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before handling the cup.
  2. Fold the cup: There are several ways to fold the cup, but one common method is to fold it in half and then in half again to create a “C” shape.
  3. Insert the cup: Relax your muscles and insert the folded cup into your vagina, aiming towards your tailbone. You can use water or a water-based lubricant to help the insertion. The cup should sit low in the vagina, with the stem protruding slightly outside.
  4. Let it open: Once the cup is inside, it should open up to create a seal against the walls of the vagina. You can twist or gently tug the stem to make sure it’s open and secure. Make sure it’s properly in place.
  5. Wear it up to 12 hours: You can wear the cup for up to 12 hours before removing it. Depending on your flow, you may need to empty it more frequently.
  6. Remove and empty the cup: To remove the cup, gently tug the stem until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base to release the seal and remove it slowly. Empty the contents into the toilet or sink.
  7. Clean the cup: Rinse the cup with water and then wash it with mild soap and water. Sterilize the cup between periods by boiling it in water for a few minutes.

It may take a few tries to get the hang of using a menstrual cup, but with practice, it can be a comfortable and effective option for managing your period.Regenerate response
